Josh Newland scored 18 points off the bench to lead an efficient Osbourn perimeter shooting attack Wednesday night at Freedom-Woodbridge, as the visiting Eagles stopped Freedom, 66-47.
Osbourn (2-3) hit ten three-pointers on the night with Newland going four of four from behind the arc. Star junior guard Manny Ojo seemed to get in the lane almost at will, dishing to the perimeter after drawing the defense to him. Ojo finished with 11 assists and anchored the defense with a number of steals.
The Osbourn offense was well-executed in general. The Eagles had 21 assists on their 27 total field goals and ten players scored. That’s a testament to Osbourn’s depth–the Eagles have boasted a great starting lineup the past few years but seem to have more team depth this season.
Junior Quian Anderson added 12 points for the Eagles. Senior guard Chance Hollingsworth had an impressive all-around game with seven points, nine rebounds, and five assists.
Freedom (1-2) trailed by nine at halftime. The host Eagles did a better job of pounding the ball inside and getting to the line in the second half, but could not convert enough to rally. Impressive freshman Nasir Kelly led the way for Freedom with 13 points, while eight other players scored for the hosts.
