Junior guard Mary Trivisonno had 11 first quarter points to get her team off to a fast start, and #10 Marshall held on to get a 61-51 home victory over #17 McLean Tuesday night.
Trivisonno hit three threes in that first quarter as the Statesmen took a 20-15 lead after one. Then sister Christina started in, using pick and rolls to score consistently at the rim and passing to Marshall’s frontcourt for similar good looks.
Marshall led 52-37 after three quarters but a 11-2 run by McLean made things interesting late. Marshall initially had trouble killing clock during the Highlander spurt but recovered with just over two minutes left to seal the victory.
Mary Trivisonno finished with 21 points, while Christina added 18. Junior forward Valerie Dirkse contributed 12 rebounds for the Statesmen (1-1).
Senior guard Elizabeth Dufrane had 18 points for the Highlanders, who fell to 3-2 on the season. Junior forward Kendall Jones had a fantastic game off the bench with a double-double.
