#15 Potomac School 62 at #4 Bishop Ireton 73
In the nightcap of the event, the host Cardinals got 23 points from senior guard Silas Devonish to defeat Potomac School 73-62.
A game Potomac School team came out strong against Ireton, taking a 18-16 lead after a quarter. The Cardinals rallied to take a 34-28 halftime lead, despite 13 first half points from Panthers senior forward Logan Jones.
Bishop Ireton expanded its lead to double digits in the second half with juniors Elijah Simpkins (eight second half points) and Jayden Mills (seven second half points) providing the Cardinals a spark. Still, Potomac School clawed back to 68-62 late, before the Ireton defense clamped down the last couple minutes of the game to hold the Panthers scoreless the rest of the way.
Mills finished with 12 points and Simpkins 11 off the bench, while senior Jake Bahr had 14 points and three assists. But Devonish, who is garnering significant interest from DI schools, was the engine that powered the Cardinals. He was able to attack the rim and hit from outside (four three-pointers), and garnered four assists to go along with his 23 points.
While the Panthers (2-2) weren’t able to pull the upset road win, they looked significantly stronger than they did in the weekend prior in their opening tip-off tourney. Jones finished with 15 points and seven rebounds, while senior guard Akim Iscandari had five second half assists and Mason Douglas had 11 points off the bench.
