Girls Player of the Week (1/4-1/10) is Charlotte Lieu, Meridian

Junior point guard Charlotte Lieu has been making noise this year, averaging a point or two under 20 points a game for the undefeated Mustangs. She’s the focal point of opposing defenses, but often that doesn’t matter.

Last week Meridian’s big Northwestern District game was with rival Brentsville and Lieu delivered. She scored her team’s first nine points of the contest as Meridian defeated Brentsville, 37-27. Lieu finished with 20 points, which was a ton in the fairly low-scoring, tough defensive game.

Lieu is starting to develop a reputation as one of Northern Virginia’s better shooters, but she also plays key roles for Meridian with her ball-handling and defense as well. Still, it’s hard to ignore her crucial skill of putting the ball in the basket. Last week also scored a quick 27 points in a rout of Manassas Park.

Congrats to Charlotte and the Mustangs!
