People have been taking note of Woodson lately. Recently the Cavs came close to upsetting #8 West Potomac, and last week the Cavs defeated a good Robinson team, 60-47. The Cavs also stayed neck-and-neck with #6 South County until the Stallions pulled away in the second half.
A big reason for the Cavs’ success has been its frontcourt of seniors Tazzy Alvarez and Isabel Conklin. We went with Conklin as our Northern Virginia Player of the Week for the week of January 18th to January 24th for her efforts.
Conklin, an athletic player who also plays lacrosse, has great footwork and anticipation on defense, which often leads to offense. Tall and rangy, she’s a good finisher at the rim and is good at attacking in transition. She can defend both the perimeter and the post, which gives Coach Le Towe lots of options.
Conklin had 23 points in the win versus Robinson and also was a significant factor on the boards versus both the Rams and against South County.
Congrats to Isabel and the Cavs!
