Georgia Simonsen (21 points, 23 rebounds) was responsible for over half of the Rams' offensive output versus the Stallions.

Simonsen, Barry carry the offense as #10 Robinson edges #19 South County, 41-37

Georgia Simonsen had 21 points and 23 rebounds, and Elizabeth Barry hit four three-pointers as Robinson defeated South County Monday night at home, 41-37. The win kept the Rams undefeated in the Patriot and tied with West Potomac atop the district.

Simonsen and Barry combined for all but three points of Robinson’s total offensive output. Simonsen, the Rams’ star junior forward who recently scored her 1,000th career point, didn’t have her best shooting night but was still a handful for the smaller Stallions to handle inside the paint. Barry, a senior guard-forward, finished with 17 points and gave the offense a much-needed boost from the perimeter to compliment Simonsen inside.

After a quarter the Rams led 15-11, but both teams’ offenses bogged down in the second quarter. The Rams couldn’t find good looks against the Stallions’ 2-3 zone, while the Rams’ physical man-to-man defense stymied South County. Each team only scored five points in the second quarter, and the score was 20-16 at half.

Barry scored eight of her 17 points in the third quarter as the Rams expanded their lead to double digits. But the Stallions, who have already bested their in-district win total from a year ago, refused to quit. A three-pointer by sophomore Laila Tull cut the lead to 37-33 with 3:26 left in the game, and a few moments later the Stallions’ Juelle Lisenby found fellow junior Savannah Simmons open for a lay-up to make it 39-37, Rams.

Bafff
Barry came up big for the Rams with eight third quarter points. She hit four three-pointers on the evening.

After that the Rams’ defense didn’t allow the Stallions to score again, however. Simonsen hit two of four free throws down the stretch, and cleared defensive rebounds on some South County (near) misses.

Robinson improved to 5-0 in the Patriot District and 12-1 overall with the win. The Rams will host West Springfield on Friday before a big game next week with West Potomac.

South County (3-2, 8-3), which was led by Tull’s 17 points, is scheduled for a non-district tilt at #9 Gainesville on Wednesday, before returning to Patriot play Thursday with a matchup against Alexandria City.
