Arruda’s Basketball Club: basketball training for all levels in the offseason (AD)

Looking for basketball training in Northern Virginia this offseason? Why not do it with the Arruda’s Basketball Club?

There’s a lot of reasons to sign up your son or daughter with Coach Arruda’s trainers and coaches. Coach Josh Arruda is a current college basketball coach, who recently has taken a role with Campbell University as Director of Camps and Analytics for their Men’s Basketball Program.

While he is no longer in Arlington, Virginia, Arruda has put together an elite staff of trainers and coaches with actual college basketball coaching experience. This group is led by Director and Coach Luke Moritz, who has an abundance of experience around the game of basketball.

Coach Luke Moritz, Director,  instructs some participants at a recent training session in Arlington, VA.

His coaching and basketball experiences have been at the D1 level as a Manager for Temple University, D2 as an Assistant Coach for West Chester University, High School as an assistant in the Philadelphia Catholic League, and Middle School level with multiple different programs, including most recently Kenmore Middle School.

Under Coach Arruda and Coach Luke’s leadership, there are several current and former college basketball players on staff, including a former DI player and two current professional basketball players. If the goal is to play in college or professionally, why not learn from those who know not just the high school game, but the college and professional one?

College and professional basketball players help to prepare kids for the next level–but also just have fun and enjoy the game.

The game changes constantly, and these men and women are on top of it. It doesn’t have to be about the next level, though. It can be just about improving your game and having fun. Coach Arruda offers training sessions for kids anywhere from 5-16 years old. His club’s mantra is Festina Lente, which means to “Make Haste Slowly” or similarly, as John Wooden used to say, “Be Quick, Don’t Hurry.”

The Club pushes three major focuses in character development. The focuses can be described as “persistent optimism, permanent presence, and honest, transparent communication.”

AAU opportunities are still present on the girls side, and of course, individual and group training sessions.

The Club offers individual and group training, perfect for youth teams looking to improve as a collective as well. Individual sessions are 45 minutes long with a three-prong focus:

1. Assessing and addressing the need for improvement in various areas of the game.
2. Working on it through challenging skill development.
3. Providing a drill plan to work on it in the future, independently.

Arruda’s Basketball Club also has AAU teams. While they are currently filled on the boys’ side, there are still openings on some girls teams for the late Spring and Summer. Additionally, they are always looking for new coaches who embody the growth mindset and understand the concept of sweat equity.

Give it a try! Whether it is to join a team, do a training session, or enjoy one of their School’s Out Sports Day Camps, come out and work out with some college talent! Practices/sessions are generally held in the Arlington area, occasionally at Marymount University.
