Junior Andre Screen scored 16 points and grabbed 12 rebounds off the bench to spark the #5 Saints (1-1) over the Titans (2-2) in the first round of the Sleepy Thompson Tournament.
12 players scored for host St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes, which also got nice contributions from juniors Jared Cross (14 points) and Jamal Barnes (10 points). The Saints employed a trapping defense to get 14 steals on the evening, and despite a nice T.C. contingent on hand enjoyed a distinct home court advantage with their boisterous fans packed into their standing-room-only gym.
T.C. Williams trailed by only one after a quarter, but was out-scored 25-9 in the second. The Titans showed resilience under first-year head coach Darryl Prue and battled back to within 48-39 in the third quarter, but could not match the Saints depth. Ricardo Ross and Jaquan Johnson led T.C. with 14 points points apiece on the evening.
Both teams will be in action Friday as Sleepy Thompson continues through Saturday.
