Osbourn Park guard Maddie Scarborough looks to penetrate against SoCo in Monday's 60-46 Jackets win.

Osbourn Park’s offensive balance impresses in 60-46 win over SoCo

Osbourn Park isn’t at full strength yet. On Monday night the Yellow Jackets only dressed nine players.

Thing is, what makes Osbourn Park’s roster so dangerous is its depth. Against #8 South County all nine of those players scored and got at least one rebound. The result was a convincing victory for #18 Osbourn Park, 60-46.

The Jackets impressed with their ball movement. Early on they moved the ball around quickly and exploited mismatches on the perimeter, hitting four threes en route to a 21-12 lead after a quarter. The Stallions did adjust and stay within striking range, closing to 37-30 early in the third quarter on a bucket by freshman Courtney Mills.

A quick 8-0 run by OP took care of the threat. Jo Raflo buried a three-pointer and Alex Harju did the same on the next possession. After a steal, Hailey Kellogg found Katie Lemanski for a lay-up. Suddenly it was 45-30 with the Jackets comfortably ahead.

Everybody contributed to the win but the Jackets (2-1) were led by Harju’s 14 points. Junior guard Maddie Scarborough added 13 and Raflo had 10. Trinity Epps was key off the bench, contributing six points and 11 rebounds against the taller Stallions.

It was a night to forget for South County (1-1), which shot poorly from the field and just seemed to have the ball bounce against it in unfortunate ways. The Stallions outrebounded the Jackets and posted up inside successfully several times, but couldn’t capitalize enough to win. Senior guards Keagan Schwab and Gabbi San Diego combined for 30 points for SoCo.

Both teams will no doubt work on free throws this week in practice, as the squads combined to shoot a horrific 18-52 from the charity stripe.

No time for that yet, however, as both teams resume action tonight. The Stallions battle Hayfield and the Jackets take on Forest Park.
